박상원 교수는 AI, 빅데이터, 스마트관광, 디지털 마케팅 분야를 중심으로 활발한 연구를 이어오고 있는 연구자이다.다수의 연구를 국제 최상위권 학술지에 발표하며 학문적 우수성을 인정받았고, 2019년 International Academy for the Study of Tourism에서 Emerging Scholar of Distinction상을 수상하였다. 또한, 2022년에는 Clarivate가 선정한 Highly Cited Researcher에 이름을 올리며 세계적으로 높은 영향력을 입증하였다. 현재는 Tourism Management의 Managing Editor를 맡고 있으며, 여러 저명한 국제 학술지의 편집위원으로도 활동하고 있다.
